Driving Force essays
Driving Force essays What is the driving force for a football player to push a little harder to score a touchdown? What drives a body guard to take a bullet for another living being? What pushes a person to go above and beyond the call of duty? All these people and millions around the world have a long term help with day to day life. A force that is unseen by the naked eye, unheard by the keenest of ears, this perceived agent is known as motivation. In the epic poem Beowulf, the hero Beowulf is pushed by this remarkable force a number of times. Beowulf first incounters this driving force when he prepares to fight the fiend Grendel. Fame, greed, death, and an owed debt-all played a major role for Beowulf wanting to battle Grendel. Beowulf is positioned ontop of a pedestel to be the best of the best, so if he slaughtered this "unstopable" beast he would infact be the ultimate warrior. "And end that terror, I shalle greet him with treasures, Gifts to reward his courage in coming to us." {Lines 384-385) Beowulf had pieces of gold, shiny sword, and ancient artifacts in his eyes. He knew if he defeated Grendel he in return would be rewarded with a generous prize. With his king being a "ring-giver" meaning the king would give back a portion of the treasure Beowulf won for him. Edgatho, Beowulf's father, owed a favor to Hrothgar that he had never payed off. Beowulf thought it was left upon him to pay Hrothgar off by ridding his lands of the minace that haunted his lands. Then over all the other motives there is death. If Beowulf would be killed in the battle between himself and Grendel, he in return would be granted entrance to Valhalla. On Beowulf's second brush with evil he is motivated by guilt, greed, fame, and death. Even though he acomplished the task that was set before him another lay in the wake of the aftermath. The slain fiends mother had came to avenge her sons death. If Beowulf would have just sailed back to Swe ...

Philosophy - Essay Example It can be studied as a property of brain. All the human activities are controlled by the instructions from the brain. Cognitive capacities include; the ability to analyze a situation, the ability to evaluate the doââ¬â¢s and donââ¬â¢ts, implementation of actions, understanding and analysis of ideas to form clear pictures about an incident, hypothesis formations, generalizations, anticipation of new possibilities, ability to understand the cause-and-effect linkages among a system etc. The intellectual levels of different human beings are different and hence the cognitive capacities also will be different from person to person. ââ¬Å"According to the computational theory of mind (CTM), mental capacities are explained by inner computations, which in biological organisms are realized in the brainâ⬠(Gualtiero Piccinini). Human mind activities are more or less similar to that of a computer. A computer is providing us the output after a lot of computations. Whatever the instructions supplied to a computer is been processed inside the Central Processing Similarly our mind also will undergo lot of computing process before taking a decision. The instructions to the computer is been supplied through the keyboard or mouse while in the case of human being the instructions are obtained through the senses, ear, eyes, nose, tongue and skin. In the case of a computer the information will be processed in the CPU while in the case of human it is processed in the brain. For computers the instructions supplied from the keyboard or mouse will reach the CPU through address buses while in the case of human the instructions from the senses reaches the brain through nerves associated with the senses. Consider the case of a purchasing decision of a car by a person. He will decide about the car to be purchased only after lot of computations such as analyzing the data about different models of cars, evaluation of price factors, fuel economy, maintenance costs, resale value, his

ilton, John (1608-1674), English poet, whose rich, dense verse was a powerful influence on succeeding English poets, and whose prose was devoted to the defense of civil and religious liberty. Milton is often considered the greatest English poet after Shakespeare. Milton was born in London on December 9, 1608, and educated at Saint Paul's School and Christ's College, University of Cambridge. He intended to become a clergyman in the Church of England, but growing dissatisfaction with the state of the Anglican clergy together with his own developing poetic interests led him to abandon this purpose. From 1632 to 1638 he lived in his father's country home in Horton, Buckinghamshire, preparing himself for his poetic career by entering upon an ambitious program of reading the Latin and Greek classics and ecclesiastical and political history. From 1638 to 1639 he toured France and Italy, where he met the leading literary figures of the day. On his return to England, he settled in London and began writing a series of social, religious, and political tracts. In 1642 he married Mary Powell, who left him after a few weeks because of the incompatibility of their temperaments, but was reconciled to him in 1645; she gave birth to three daughters and a son before her death in 1652. In his writings, Milton supported the parliamentary cause in the civil war between Parliamentarians and Royalists, and in 1649 he was appointed foreign secretary by the government of the Commonwealth. He became totally blind about 1652 and thereafter carried on his literary work helped by an assistant; with the aid also of the poet Andrew Marvell, he fulfilled his government duties until the restoration of

Branding versus Brand Equity
Branding is technically defined as a way to be able to provide the clients a perfect impression about a certain product to make them finally decide to purchase it (Business.. n. p. ). On the other hand, brand equity is technically defined as a way to calculate the value of the brand (Wikipedia n. p. ). This paper entitled, ââ¬Å"Branding versus Brand Equityâ⬠aims to look into the differences between two technical terms known as ââ¬Å"brandingâ⬠and ââ¬Å"brand equityâ⬠.There are several differences between ââ¬Å"brandingâ⬠and ââ¬Å"brand equityâ⬠and some of these are the following: First of all, branding carries the goal of a certain business or product wanting it to be the clientââ¬â¢s first choice (Business.. n. p. ). Brand equityââ¬â¢s goal, on the other hand, is to find out ââ¬Å"the value built up in a brandâ⬠(Wikipedia.. n. p. ). Second, to achieve the goal of branding as previously mentioned, what it takes for that to occur entails ââ¬Å"building and managing a brandâ⬠(Business..n. p. ).Meanwhile, in brand equity, the goal of branding may be reached by ââ¬Å"calculating then drawing a comparison between the expected future profits from the branded manufactured goods with the anticipated potential or upcoming revenue from an equivalent non-branded itemâ⬠(Wikipedia n. p. ). Third, branding can provide the prospective clients an unyielding idea of what they are about to purchase, making it easier for them to decide to make a purchase (Business.. n. p. ).On the other hand, brand equity, makes it a little excruciating for a client to buy a certain product simply because brand equity may either be positive or negative (Wikipedia n. p. ). Positive here means that it may provide prospective clients an unbending thought with regards to the product or negative, which means, it may give forthcoming clients to see a product not worthy of attention and money (Wikipedia n. p. ). Fourth, since branding is foun ded on the goal which is to become the best alternative for prospective client, then it is most likely to result in a positive outcome (Business..n. p. ).On the other hand, since brand equity is founded on a neutral goal, then it is most likely to result in a bad management, and eventually, a bad product as well (Wikipedia n. p. ). Fifth, branding may be utilized by all types of companies, big and small alike (Business.. n. p. ). Brand equity, however, cannot cover all types, it is limited to large companies since it entails calculations and comparison of branded and non-branded products (Wikipedia.. n. p. ).Last but not least, branding seeks to build a flourishing brand by: 1) paying attention to the wants and needs of the clients; 2) staying honest and believing in your own brand; 3) keeping the simplicity of the brand; 4) being extensive; 5) making sure of the employeesââ¬â¢ involvement and their believe and support on the brand itself; 6) proper articulation of the brand thro ugh print & television advertisements, leaflets, written communications etc so that the same slogan and idea is reinforced; 7) utilization of the same logo everywhere; 8) meeting the promises kept related to the ââ¬Å"brand promisesâ⬠and even exceeding if circumstances allow; and last but not least 9) looking for opportunities to improve the brand and continuously seeking for room for growth (Business.. n. p. ). Simply put, it focuses on what should be aware on, the quality, how much a client is aware of such, as the trend goes for brand equity (Wikipedia n. p. ). Conclusion Branding and brand equity are different in terms of goal, technique of reaching for that goal, in terms of appeal to clients, in terms of the size of the companies that it may serve, as well as, the focus (whether quality or quantity).

In 1516, the Spanish landed on Uruguays coast but the region was not settled until the 16th and 17th centuries due to hostilities with the Charrua and a lack of silver and gold. When Spain did begin to colonize the area, it introduced cattle, which later increased the areas wealth. In the early 18th century, the Spanish founded Montevideo as a military outpost. Throughout the 19th century, Uruguay was involved in several conflicts with the British, Spanish, and Portuguese. In 1811, Jose Gervasio Artigas launched a revolt against Spain and became the countrys national hero. In 1821, the region was annexed to Brazil by Portugal, but in 1825, after several revolts, it declared its independence from Brazil. It did decide, however, to maintain a regional federation with Argentina. In 1828 after a three-year war with Brazil, the Treaty of Montevideo declared Uruguay as an independent nation. In 1830, the new country adopted its first constitution and throughout the rest of the 19th century, Uruguays economy and government had various shifts. In addition, immigration, mainly from Europe, increased. From 1903 to 1907 and 1911 to 1915, President Jose Batlle y Ordoà ±ez established political, social, and economic reforms, However, by 1966, Uruguay was suffering from instability in these areas and underwent a constitutional amendment. A new constitution was then adopted in 1967 and by 1973, a military regime was put in place to run the government. This led to human rights abuses and in 1980, the military government was overthrown. In 1984, national elections were held and the country again began to improve politically, economically, and socially. Today, due to several more reforms and various elections throughout the late 1980s and into the 1990s and 2000s, Uruguay has one of the strongest economies in South America and a very high quality of life. Government Uruguay, officially called the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, is a constitutional republic with a chief of state and a head of government. Both of these positions are filled by Uruguays president. Uruguay also has a bicameral legislative assembly called the General Assembly that is made up of the Chamber of Senators and the Chamber of Representatives. The judicial branch is made up of the Supreme Court. Uruguay is also divided into 19 departments for local administration. Economics and Land Use Uruguays economy is considered very strong and is consistently one of the fastest-growing in South America. It is dominated by an export-oriented agricultural sector, according to the CIA World Factbook. The major agricultural products produced in Uruguay are rice, wheat, soybeans, barley, livestock, beef, fish, and forestry. Other industries include food processing, electrical machinery, transportation equipment, petroleum products, textiles, chemicals, and beverages. Uruguays workforce is also well-educated and its government spends a large part of its revenue on social welfare programs. Geography and Climate Uruguay is located in southern South America, with borders on the South Atlantic Ocean, Argentina, and Brazil. It is a relatively small country with a topography consisting mostly of rolling plains and low hills. Its coastal regions are made up of fertile lowlands. The country is also home to many rivers, and the Uruguay River and the Rio de la Plata are some of its largest. Uruguays climate is warm and temperate, and there are ââ¬â¹rarely, if ever, freezing temperatures in the country. William Shakespeare s The Merchant Of Venice - 2269 Words
Samantha Hansen ENG 314 Brother Brugger 12.15.14 The Question of Shylock It is hard to read The Merchant of Venice without finding at least one character to sympathize with. The unforgettable villain Shylock as well as Portia, Shakespeareââ¬â¢s first and one of his most famous heroines are arguably some of this plays most beloved characters. But, is Shylock really the villain? Or is he a victim of circumstance? Shylockââ¬â¢s insistence for a pound of flesh has made him one of literatures most memorable villains, but many might be inclined to say he is a compelling and sympathetic figure, rather then a villainous figure. By applying multiculturalism to this play, one might be able to deduce that through the exploitation of Jewish stereotypes common during the time this play was written, as well as language and character development, Shakespeare creates a character for which we not only feel scorn and derision, but also pity and compassion. Jewish Stereotypes The Jewish community was treated horribly during the time of the Merchant of Venice. They wer e never really considered true citizens of the town and were never respected by Christians of the time who adopted a bigoted attitude towards Jews and even forced them to wear red hats that showed them that they were separate from the citizens (Birnbaum). When Solanio and Salerio, both Christians, refer to Shylock as ââ¬Å"the dog Jewâ⬠that was just another way of Shakespeare saying that Jews were treated like Mutts, a comical way ofShow MoreRelatedWilliam Shakespeare s The Merchant Of Venice Essay1624 Words à |à 7 PagesWilliam Shakespeare s comedy The Merchant of Venice uses contrasting religions to draw out major themes through the ethnic divides that are exemplified.
